We worked as hard as we could for over a week to have the deck guest friendly by the fourth. Missing handrail is not the nicest way to entertain anyone, much less persons under three feet tall. Lots of sweat later, we were finished. You guessed it, thirty minutes before the guests arrived, it started raining and our party of twenty-four plans moved inside. Thanks to Jenny’s inspiring roll-with-the punches post, I did not panic. Then again, what did I have to panic about? Unlike her million dollar worthy party details, I rely on the, ahem, natural enhancement of the mountains in the distance and ambient air. Snicker. I think some people call that lack of inspirational talent. Oh, and in case you hadn’t noticed, my geranium growing skills have not yet won the lottery. Improved in that I can now grow green leaves. Lacking in that I cannot get them to bloom.
Happiest of weekends everyone!

I love love before and after pictures! I need your magic touch at my house!!! I want to come chillax at your house for sure. It looks sooo inviting…
Wow, your deck is amazing! I’m sure there will be many parties there in the future. I only dream of having a deck. Maybe some day. And if it makes you feel any better, I’m not a very good geranium grower, either. Mine are doing better this year, but its nothing I did. I think its because of where I got them. They had a good head start.
Happy Saturday!
i lovelovelove it! the white is great with that other color.
your deck looks like a perfect place for parties.
funny. i knew that before you starting posting about it. snicker. didn’t i?!
i’m thinking some of your sweet tea would work fine for me…
sitting next to those beautiful geranium leaves and talking with YOU!
Oh, well, who needs blooming geraniums and “million dollar worthy party details” when you’re with friends?! (That’s what I’m always telling myself!) And I genuinely do think that your mountain view is better than ANY party details. I’ll trade you a few of our trees, for a glimpse of your mountains from my kitchen window!
hard work, sweat, deadlines-do they make you and your hubs closer or frustrate you? i always think high pressure situations make us relate to each other in an um, whole new way. It’s actually very fun to work together, but why do we have to be so different?;) The deck is smashingly beautiful! I would be happy to eat hot dogs on it!;) Oh, and your sweet tea, too, please, a large glass w/ plenty of ice.
Wow! That is a beautiful deck!! Awesome job you two! Looks like you had plenty of good help 😉 I would love to see a complete tour of your house. All the little glimpses I have seen just make me want to see more 🙂
*groan* I would do almost anything for a beautiful deck like this! And the view? ahhhhh… how refreshing!
It turned out really awesome! I love the white railing. Perfect party spot. Hope the weather cooperates next time. 🙂
Another project at Michelle’s house.
I think one of the first posts I read of yours was the one about hauling all of those bricks to your house, so you’ll forever be a worker in my mind. Probably sounds silly to you.
Beautiful deck, and I agree with Cindy. Some of that good sweet tea and sitting on that deck would work well together!
Oh, you painted the railing white this time? I love it! It looks perfect with your house and makes it look softer. Your flower pots are pretty, too! Are they new or do they just stand out because of the new look?
The tea picture in your header, and the pictures of the deck together….hmmm, isn’t it time to be laying out together again?
ahem. (cough)
excuse me…i must have something stuck in my throat. 😉
but, nevertheless…
the deck looks AWESOME!! perfect for summer evening parties and the likes! we just painted our porch railings white and i LOVE, love, love it! yours looks great and in my mind, a painted railing versus an unfinished one looks…. complete.
happy weekending friend!
Wow! What a beautiful deck!! I love the white railing with the stained deck! What a lot of work that must have been, to paint all. those. spindles.!!! AND I love that it’s in the back of the house… If that were me, I’d use it for lots more than entertaining. 🙂 Such as my personal tanning bed and such things. 😉 Great job!!!
ohhh it turned out beautiful. i know that you’ve been putting alot of work into this, so nice to see it all looking pretty. i can’t imagine how excited you must be. will you guys be eating a beautiful supper out on the porch tonight taking it all in ?:)
@MartinTreehouse – Come on over! Wish you could!
@ma_an_pa – Boy, you make me feel better! Except that I always buy mine looking perfect and then manage to have them go downhill. Fast. :/
@down_onthefarm – Yep, it’s a GREAT place for parties. All kinds of parties! 😉 And the geranium leaves will make you feel all happy. I promise. 🙂
@itsayoderworld – Yep, friends are THE best party decorations. I wish you could come again! Thanks anyway for the trees. I want some, but not at the risk of losing the mountains. Never thought I’d say that, but it’s true.
@lwstutz – I cook hot dogs pretty well. 😉 Deadlines … it depends. Most of the time we do ok with them until I realize that actually David does fine with them and it’s ME who is the one getting grouchy. But we do make a pretty good team working together which is a good thing considering we spend most of our waking hours like that. Oh, and trust me on this one, at my house we use ICE.
@inanorchard – You are kind. Actually, you can see a lot of the house in one of my earlier posts. I don’t think it’s changed much … except for more bangs and scratches … on the inside although we have done considerable work to the outside. Let me see if I can find it and link it.
@ihavesix – Aw, I hope you can get one sometime. Everyone needs a deck in my opinion.
@TrentTribe – Thanks!
@totallycherished – Actually, worker doesn’t sound like such a bad description. Although sometimes I am pretty lazy, I’m not afraid of hard work either. I’m just not disciplined enough to do it all the time. 🙂 There are still two enormous piles of brick waiting for placement. Hopefully one will disappear this summer. Maybe we’ll have to have an FFE gathering here sometime. I’d actually have almost enough room to host the whole thing if it was warm outside.
@twofus_1 – It’s way high time to do that again. I love the white railing, too. And the pots are new for this year (Marshalls / TJ Maxx steal of a deal …. the biggest ones were under $15, the smallest were $7!!!) but they do pop five times more since it’s stained.
@foreveranoatneygirl_n2Hisown – Oh, you funny girl! I bet you have a story next to the fountain that would make me, ….oh, excuse me …. cough, too. 😉
@lifeisadance – Yes, it WAS a lot of work. Made at least a little easier though by David’s ingenuity. We took the rail sections down to paint them which beat standing on a 12 foot ladder. And yes, it does get used for extracurriculars more than hosting! I love, love, love that it is such a private little spot.
@mytoesareblue – Thanks!
well……we could have the FFE gathering at your house and help with with placing your two remaining piles of bricks. Yeah right….like that would happen. We could hardly get ourselves motivated to move from one location to another, but it was a good thought. 🙂
@totallycherished – Ha, ha! If you think I would let you lift a finger toward that brick pile you’re guessing way wrong. Trust me, you’d get the royal treatment. 🙂
