We had grilled hamburgers for lunch today. Fantastic, moist, grilled to perfection hamburgers with lots of crisp lettuce, melted cojack cheese, pickles, jalapenos, onions, and tomato slices. Why is it that when I serve hamburgers I feel as though it’s the perfect, all in one, balanced meal (protein, dairy, carbohydrates, and veggies) but when I grab fast food it feels as though I’m slaying myself with artery clogging fat?
And while we’re on “doesn’t make sense” contrasts, why do girls who do not enjoy cleaning get house-cleaning jobs for a living?

I’m not sure I have an answer to the hamburger question but maybe some tips on why a homemade one might be healthier. If you use lean meat, don’t “fry” the buns like the fast food places do and use no mayonnaise it’s already better. I’m not overly keen on wheat buns unless they’re really soft but that’s an improvement, too, over the white. Grilled burgers are healthier than fried ’cause the fat drips off.
It’s like the home-cooked meals that are often called “amish cooking” that many of us grew up with: mashed potatoes and veggies generously seasoned with butter, cook the veggies ’til they’re very soft, and pour gravy made with pan drippings over (nearly) everything. Years ago it was considered healthy, now we realize it’s more comfort food than a healthy meal.
About the house-cleaning jobs, most of us will do something we don’t enjoy (at least for a while) if it pays well enough! Was this a long enough ramble for you!! 🙂
LOL great point about the cheeseburgers! About the housecleaning job… the only reason I do it is b/c of the money. Sounds bad, but I haven’t found any other jobs that are flexible w/ my schedule & pay that good for only a couple hours a day!
Mmmmmmm, yummy…..my tummy’s growling! ~Jo
If I have a burger at home I put LOTS more veggies on than fast food places do. With about half of the grease.
I finally have time to think again so there will be an email coming your way in the next few days. If you have time to read it. I do not envy you and hope I’m not on the food committee until I’m at least 40. =)
Kiersten is currently screeching in her high chair. Gotta run.
That grilled to perfection burger makes my mouth water! Yummy 🙂
About the house cleaning, that is in fact is why my girls don’t have house cleaning jobs 🙁
I was going to say only this: “Because of the money!” And then I saw that someone else already beat me to it.
You wanna come cook for me? My cook quit.
four more months…..
I’m an orphan tonight. Can I come over for supper too?
Feel for you being on the food committee! Was there too already. Seems it goes with being married . We’re also getting ready to host Fellowship mgts but ours prob. won’t be as large as yours. Guess we’ll need to be visible at the mgts. since we’re youth sponsers.
good question on why we clean for money when we hate cleaning…i guess i answered my own question–the money!! And why do i actually not mind cleaning someone elses house while i dread cleaning my own? I read through alot of your posts trying to decide if i knew you or not and i guess i don’t. But that’s what’s cool about xanga i guess!! great house btw. I like the yellow walls in the kitchen.
