It’s over. The fellowship meetings. And the antibiotics. And hopefully the strep. I feel like a bouncing Tigger again. I must have shed at least 15 years in the time it took us to drive home from church.
Things went well overall. We had crazy moments and cool, calm, collected moments. The most hair-raising was definitely Saturday lunch. We expected 150 people based on the numbers we’d tallied of people planning to come. The planning committee came downstairs and said there were many, many more than that. Somewhere over 200. It turned out to be sort of like Jesus feeding the 5000. We just kept dividing chicken halves into quarters as we fixed plates and when we finished there was more than one cooler full left. Except that Jesus would have also had enough slush. I really wanted some. And neither would he have had to run next door to the bakeshop to get cakes and cupcakes to supplement the TX sheet cake. And come to think of it, there are a lot of other dissimilarities, such as the condition of my nerves as the people filed downstairs to get their food.
From there on, things went much better. Today at lunch we served 340 which was very nearly what we’d planned for. The California Deluxe got dipped with tiny spoons and even so we had less than a pint left and barely five servings of guormet potatoes. Everything else was comfortably perfect. Perfect, that is, until Rodger found an entire roaster of Poor Men’s Steak that had been completely forgotten and was still merely bubbling away when the dishes were nearly done!
The steering committee did an absolutely fantastic job of thinking about everything before hand and keeping things going everywhere smoothly and all at once throughout. They were truly servants with eyes, hands, feet, and hearts. I hear they had a de-briefing session this afternoon. Ruth and I had our own 20 second debriefing session in the church parking lot just before leaving for home. Most people would probably have termed it a scream. And for those of you several states over experiencing gusts of wind this afternoon, I apologize. It’s just that my sighs of relief are fairly large.

I know you are weary but reading this all makes me laugh and also VERY glad it wasn’t me in your shoes. 🙂 Glad it went ok.
That WOULD get old making iced tea for the whole world! 🙂
So absolutely glad to hear you’re feeling better and that everything went well!
So glad you are feeling better. I hear tigger bouncing in your voice:) I also understand where the nice cool breeze off the mountain was coming from tonight as we were sitting outside around the fire. You make me chuckle. Now, you can relax, I did get wind of Christy coming in. We did swing by Kelvin’s yesterday and they weren’t home. We didn’t really expect it but haven’t been able to make it to Charlottesville yet. Take care! KG
Hurray! (I should’ve done that in 72pt type all caps bold) I thought of you often this weekend. You may send some of that roasterful of poor man’s steak up here for my cook. She really likes it, but doesn’t often make it.
Now that the ordeal is over, I hope you have a fantabulous week!
Your post made me laugh…:) Sounds like you did a wonderful job…You must have not screamed laugh enough, because we had no wind yesterday.
Even if you had not specifically said you were feeling better, I could’ve guessed it from the way your post sounded. Hope you have a relaxing week!
PRAISE THE WORD !! ( as Adam says it ) ITS OVER ! SCREAMMMMMMM AGAIN 🙂
Now you can sit and prop your feet up and read. Or you could go shopping (for fun of course). Or go swimming. Or come over to my house to celebrate…..don’t I wish. Does ‘congratulations’ fit this occasion? I think so. =)
Hey, glad the FM went well for you and that you are physically feeling better. Was good to hear from you on my site. I finally have had some days at home where I actually get to do things like updating my xanga site. I feel so lazy. I haven’t seen Jo for a while but we usually talk every week so we keep up with each other. They are really busy and the biggest thing in their lives right now is Jahna. They are not sure when her mom will be released from prison, and there’s also the thing of giving her back to a mom who says if it wouldn’t be for her kids, she would rather just stay in prison where everything she needs is given to her and she doesn’t even have to work for it. :(Anyway, you can pray they will know the right thing to do. Hope to go see them sometime before school starts. Well, have a good day and take care. ~LaVertta
Glad you are feeling better! I too, got a laugh out of your post! We have a fellowship almost every Sunday so 3 or 4 times a year I take my turn with “main dish”. This would be on a much smaller scale then what you were dealing with but every time I always have that panic wondering if I made enough food!
Your last paragraph cracked me up! So glad that you survived the weekend, and that you’re feeling so much better! I hope & pray that the strep will stay far, far, FAR away now!!! ~Jo
thanks for commenting…. will we get to see you around here sometime soon? It has been great getting to know Christy a little better. About swimming… my friend (the instructor) says 2 is NOT to young. McKayla is almost 3 and she didn’t have near the fears that my 7 year old did. They didn’t really try to get them (the little ones) to learn to swim but got them used to water, jumping with arm floats and swimming with them. They let her go under water before they would get her when she jumped etc…. She wouldn’t do any of that for me! Just clung to me and cried. It was amazing to me how when it was someone besides mom and she didn’t even know them she was willing to learn :). They told me it is amazing now what they will do next year.. they don’t come with that fear I guess and usually make great progress. My friends with kids that have done it 2-3 years now agreed.
Hey, maybe you could’ve asked Jesus to turn water into slush!! 🙂 Sorry you didn’t get any. I have some in my freezer right now… Come on over! So glad you’re feeling better.
I bet you’re just floating right now, to have all that behind you. I’m glad it’s over, the fellowship meetings and the strep. 🙂 It’s been years since I’ve been to Fellowship Mtgs., last time was when they had them here in Ia and then we were married with kids. So the last one I was to as a youth was out in Holmes Co. and there were around 1200 people there on Sunday. It was a zoo, and I had to wonder then (and now) how that food committee felt on the Monday after. Probably weak with relief. 🙂 If I were you, I’d celebrate. 🙂 Have a great week!
When we got our film SLR, we got a Pentax because of the lense compatability. Thanks to not having to buy a new lense, the Amazon rewards we get from our credit card, and a $50 rebate, we are now enjoying the digital version. We got by for a long time with the film, because we had a scanner. We would just order the negatives, scan them in, decide which ones we wanted, and get them developed. It was a long process!
