Amazingly enough, I haven’t touched a paintbrush all week … except to longingly finger the bristles of one lying on my kitchen counter. I have probably an hour or two of painting ready and it’s hardly worth making the trip out to do it. So, I’ve been sewing curtains. Those are not days of laughter and fun. I love to sew. At least I thought I did. Yesterday I asked myself ten times (minimum) why I can’t be one of those people who goes to the store and falls in love with something on the shelf? Instead, I start dreaming in my head before shopping and then either what I have dreamed of doesn’t exist in the store or it’s completely out of my price range. Without second thought I load up on fabric and since it either appears easy or there really is no pattern like it, I decide to “just make it.” That trait I inherited straight from my mom; too bad she didn’t think to also pass along the talent needed to accomplish it almost without effort. Tuesday I was over halfway through with the valance part of the master bath curtain when I discovered I’d read the house plans wrong. Smile. Some windows on the plan are marked 3’0″ x 4’8″. I can read that. Some windows are marked 30×48. I THOUGHT I could read that. Since there were no inches or feet markings and no spacings between numbers, I assumed that simply meant inches. And so, my deliberated over curtain was over four inches too narrow and definetly too short. Not to mention, the curtains for Adam’s bedroom that took Mom, Chris, and I an entire day, are also to short. Smile. Fortunately I had enough fabric to start over with the bathroom curtain with only one splice in a hidden place. Even so, I started sewing it together and realized the backing was going to end up upside down so I had to pick seams and start over. Oh for a pattern with step by step instructions and diagrams! Adam’s curtains remain on the, “wait til the trim actually gets put up then see how bad things are” list.
Good things did happen this week … like a SNOW DAY on Monday! Since a picture is worth a thousand words,
The exciting news of the month (actually maybe the year) is that my sister, Beth, and her husband, Kelvin, are expecting twins in August!

Thanks for your comment…hope your car keeps on being faithful! The BEST vehicles are the ones that are paid for, no matter how “beastly” they look (referring to our truck:-)).
And, good luck on the curtains. I do not envy you at all!;-) ~Jo
Congrats on the twins in the family! Makes me remember back when my tein brothers were born..ah, what fun!! (:
Tell Beth congratulations!
The snow pictures are lovely. I sure did enjoy the 60+ weather here today, though. 🙂 Also love hearing updates on the house. I’m so impressed that you’re doing your own painting.
One more thing – thanks for the comment the other week. I had the winter blues at the time and it just reminded me how much I do like the stage our family is in right now. I even felt inspired to write a post about it, but haven’t acted upon the feeling yet.
yeah….michelle…..the day that i sew curtains i feel quite sure will not be a day of laughter and fun either!!!! i almost can’t handle the thought. but i DO know what you mean about having this pic in your mind about the look you want and you go off somewhere to get it and it’s nowhere!! but….at this point in my life…..i will have to change my dream rather than trying to make my dream come true myself!
i’ve even done that with clothes. i think about exactly the shirt i want to go with this or that and it’s nowhere to be found. sometime i’d like to get back into sewing my clothes tho or especially for the little girls . it think that would actually be fun…..IF…..and that’s is a big IF…..i would have a decent sewing machine that isn’t 30 yrs. old and doesn’t have a clue anymore about what it’s duties are. thinks that it’s main job is to aggravate its owner and make sure that the thread breaks off after every 6 inches of sewing. this baby has seen it’s better days…so for now….we go out and try to find bargains!!!
so how’s the house?? i think about ya’all and wonder how it’s coming. would so love to see it. would so love to come and help. would so love to sit and have lunch with you girls and your mom. would so love to have adam and sasha play. would so love to scrapbook with ya. would so love to…….wait a minute….i have lots of work waiting on me…what am i doing on here!?!?!?!?! so help me i’m as bad as my girls!! procastinating!!
tomorrow morning we’re going out to indianapolis, IN for the schools’s volley ball ( staci plays) tournament. the boys have a basketball tournament the same time, same place. so we’ll get to watch both. i’m all excited bout going. staci is leaving with the rest of the team today. school is being dismissed at l2:00 already so they can leave. their first game is tonight but we won’t make it out for it i guess. ;((
luv,,,katy
Congrats to your sister (and you)! How totally exciting…2 babies! Cute pics of Adam 😉
Guess what, I had to cut Steve off the picture so I’d have one of myself. 🙂 Usually when we take one together we have our faces close together, but we took this one sitting down at a table, so I managed to crop him out. :-()
And amen – God had a reason for giving kids such a funny perspective on life. 🙂 Have a great weekend.
Okay, I’m sure you’re tired of comments from me, but that wasn’t supposed to be a frown face. I still haven’t figured out how to do the right faces when I leave comments. Whatever!
