About the time I think I’m going to go crazy for some adult interaction, Adam puts me in stitches and I realize he’s one of my favorite people to talk to. Which is a good thing since I spend far more waking hours with him then anyone else. Here are a few of my recent favorites:
************
The other week Mom and Dad’s electricity was off overnight. Adam called Grammie this morning and I listened with interest to his side of the phone conversation.
“Is your e’tricity back on? Oh, well, I could fix it. I would just put a nail in. Well, I can’t come today. Maybe tomorrow.” pause
“Church was very full last night. Yeah, the men’s side. We just had to park way far away.” pause (I think Mom must have asked him what happened at church). “I went to children’s class but … I don’t know what it was about. Darrel just said, ‘you may go back to your parents now’.”
more pauses as Mom dialogued
“I don’t have a virus anymore. I just have a little bit of a cold.” (Note to self. Teach Adam that colds are also viral) and then when I indicated that I wanted to talk to her now he finishes up with
“Well, I’ll just let you go, Mom (I guess you mean Grammie?).”
*************************************************************************
We were eating when Adam’s eyes got big and serious as he looked at me, “Mommy, just take little bites so the baby doesn’t choke.”
*****************************************************************
I woke Adam from a long nap because it was getting late and I didn’t want an impossible bedtime. He was all groggy and oh, so toasty warm. I bought his bedding at Pottery Barn and have been absolutely amazed at how much warmer it keeps him. Sometimes things really are worth the extra money.
Me: “Oh, I’d like to have a blanket like this sometime. Do you think I could?”
Adam: Eyes still shut. Shakes head, no.
Me: “Why not?”
Adam: “It’s too expensive.”
**************************************************************************
We’ve had quite the theological discussions over the past months and some of them include non-resistance and the difference between the Old Testament and New Testament. I was getting supper on the table the other night when Adam went digging around in his school drawer and found his magnetic letters to put on the frig. He took some over to the frig and then asked,
“Did they just do this in the Old Testament?”
***********************************************************
I love talking on the phone. Somehow I need to learn to take the phone with me though. Inevitably, just as I sit on the couch and get all comfortable to read Adam a story or simply rest for a minute, the phone rings and I have to haul myself back out. I was horrified the other day when the phone rang and Adam goes,
{huge sigh} “Why does the phone just always have to ring?” (Whoops, Mommy, that sounded like some pretty good imitation)
and then he was talking to David Lee who apparently asked, “how’s mommy doing?”
Adam didn’t miss a beat as he swaggered around, “Um, she’s up and movin”
************************************************
Today we had our first book study for the young married ladies from church. Tonight at the supper table Adam said, “hey, we forgot to play hide and seek.”
Emily’s house is set up perfectly for something like this. The kids were upstairs w/ a babysitter and we ladies were downstairs around the fire. Still, with 12 kids and the majority of them two and under, I could hardly see there being enough room to make hide and seek very feasible.
“Adam, I think it would have been too full to play hide and seek,” I said.
Adam: “Well, we could have just said, ‘excuse me’.”
**********************************************************************
And one more for my aunts and uncles in Ohio with whom I would probably be drinking coffee about now if it weren’t for the snow and ice. I was talking to Adam about going to Ohio and apparently he remembered that it takes a long time to get there because his first words were,
“But why does it take so long to go there? See, they should’ve just built it closer. They should’ve just built it on our land then it wouldn’t take so long and they would be our neighbors.”
True enough. But then there wouldn’t be creamsticks, either.

Oh, my! The wonderful logic of little people!!
Hi. I was just wondering xanga and came across your site. I just had to comment and tell you that I think your son sounds so cute! I especially love his solution to the power failure. lol.
Where did you get your child……the things he doesn’t come up with!!! 🙂
I loved these stories!! And I’m impressed that you remembered them, because that’s the biggest problem for me. But if I write them down, I may be able to locate that when it’s time to post.
He has a wonderful mind Isn’t it amazing how much we hear of ourselves in their conversations?!! Loved it!!
Have you thought about packing Adam’s bags and leaving him here tomorrow night? You could come this way on your way home from Martha’s. – A Grammie thought Of course only if you all think it is an agreeable one. : ) I would be delighted! It’s been ever so long. I never did get to tell him the story of when he was a baby that he asked for on the phone the other day.
Great stories! I look forward to the day when Anna and I can have conversations like that.
I was just going to say, can’t wait till Zachary’s talking like that. So fun! And I think they should’ve built VA just a little closer to SC, too.
Are ya up and movin’this morning 🙂 Hope So!
And make sure that baby doesn’t choke!!!! To Cute 🙂
Aww, those are too cute! Thanks for sharing!
Someday you and Adam will be so glad you wrote this stuff down.
I like the blanket one the best. And I bet you’ll enjoy talking to him even more after the baby comes!
Reply. I got a pair at Motherhood Maternity and at first i wasn’t to sure cause they didn’t look tight but when i brought them home they were tighter then I thought but they are still aren’t like the ones you wear but i’m hoping it will work. They’re called compression maternity hose. I did order a pair of the thigh-highs from the Greene Pharmancy in Standardsville. She said they are hard to get off and on.
RYC…. how badly did you want them? Might be a tad pricey :). I can eat ham and pineapple pizza and enjoy it but that greasy other stuff makes my stomach roll! So I shall dine on a salad and maybe breadsticks tonight and get my fat from other things that I enjoy :)! ( you could come get some flowers too, Christy pro wouldn’t mind!)
Hey Michelle, was just “passing through” and wanted to say hi. My name is Anna. We met when you visited Ireland back a few (3?) years now. I love the quotes from Adam, especially the last one – sounds like a very logical thinker!
As I’ve said 1000 times b4, your baby is just TOO CUTE, Michelle!!!! I was thinking you & I should talk on the phone at some point… 🙂 I’d prob call you just as you’d be on the couch all snug…
How darling! Reminds me of a special little one I know with that name. Sadly, he is starting to out grow some of this. Three more follow behind though.
Blessings,
Kim
